The tally of fatalities from the transport jet that ignited and crashed has now climbed to 13, according to latest statements.

City Leader's Announcement

“On my way to the Teamsters’ candlelight gathering, I was informed of a 13th person that passed away as a result of the UPS flight 2976 accident,” wrote the local official in a online message. “My heart are with the families, friends and colleagues of all who were killed in this recently occurred calamity. Investigation Updates

Government authorities disclosed that the freight aircraft’s wing caught fire and an motor fell off soon after departure from the aviation hub, resulting in the plane to fall and burst into a fireball.

The National Transportation Safety Board has said it is examining the plane’s service record, that was in the state for repairs several weeks prior to the accident.

Flight tracking records showed the plane was on the tarmac in San Antonio, Texas from 3 September to 18 October.

“We are knowledgeable that this aircraft was there in that city,” said an official on later, without a specific time frame. “We will review all elements of maintenance that was performed, including the repair period, all the way to the date of the flight.”

Recovery of Key Evidence

The pilot’s recorder and data recorder were found, and the engine was found on the tarmac.

The recorders – known as black boxes – were built to endure accident forces and extreme heat from blazes, and they seemed to be undamaged when discovered amid the crash debris. Authorities plan on reviewing information from the black boxes.

The plane’s final data recordings displayed an elevation of 475 feet and a rate of 210 miles per hour ahead of the impact.

Repair Background

Per FAA files dated 18 September, a crack on a structural piece within the center wing fuel tank required maintenance.

Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which stated it offers structural repairs for the company’s jet and runs a service location in that city, chose not to provide remarks, but expressed it would work closely when officials contacted it.

Services Continue

Meanwhile, the hub activities restarted last night with its express or nighttime procedure, official Jim Mayer confirmed. All three landing strips at the airport were additionally reopened.

The sorting center in this location is the firm’s largest. The center employs over 20,000 individuals in the region, manages three hundred aircraft daily and organizes in excess of four hundred thousand items an hour.

Local Reaction

A gathering was organized on the night of 6 November by the local Teamsters Union, which acts for staff at the airfield, the company’s biggest air cargo hub.

The union chapter, which represents employees, began the gathering with a quiet tribute at that time, the approximate time of the accident previously.

“This incident was so unexpected, so surprising,” the leader told the group of 200. “No one had a opportunity to bid farewell to any one of those who we have mourned.”
